MAFI allots 20% scholarship slot for MADADMA
MAFI’s Board of Trustees approved the request of Cotabato Tribal Consultative Council for Devt., Inc. (CTCCDI) providing a slot in the Collegiate Degree and Technical Vocational scholarship grants for the students or youths whose families are members of Manobo Apao Descendant of Ancestral Domains of Mount Apo (MADADMA).
The slots granted for MADADMA is a special accommodation in the scholarship project of MAFI. In arequest resolution of CTCCDI to the MAFI Board of Trustees, they specifically cited the giving of scholarship grants for MADADMA “at twenty percent (20%) allocation” in MAFI’s CDSP and TVSTP. This means every school year, in the recruitment of MAFI scholars, 20 percent of them will come from MADADMA communities.
MADADMA is an ancestral domain of the descendants of a great Manobo leader in late 1800s, Datu Apao. The National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) granted MADADMA their Certificate of Ancestral Domain Title (CADT) in the year 2004.
Covering up to 3,177 hectares, MADADMA claims most of the western side of Mount Apo Natural Park in the barangays of Ilomavis and Balabag in Kidapawan City and portion of Brgy. Kisandal in Magpet, Cotabato. It does not include the 701 has. Geothermal Reservation of Energy Development Company (EDC) wherein by special Presidential Degree, beforehand separated the area. The EDC’s geothermal reservation area also located adjacent to MADADMA’s Certificate of Ancestral Domains Title (CADT).
Moreover, MADADMA is also the immediate recipient of the benefits and privileges that may derive from the third geothermal plant being proposed by EDC as of the moment. The idea of providing 20% allocation to the vacant slot in MAFI’s scholarship project is to prepare the MADADMA organization in the event that they will undertake the same project from the proceeds of new geothermal plant. And by the time MADADMA gets hold of the proceeds from the 3rd plant, MAFI’s special accommodation of scholarship to the community will eventually cease.
A new system in the selection of MADADMA scholars was also developed by the organization. MAFI assisted the organization in the formulation of policies and procedures from the start of recruitment up to the monitoring in the actual schooling of MADAMA scholars.
